What is FSSAI Registration?

FSSAI Registration is a mandatory food safety license issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. It regulates the manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale, and import of food products in India.

Any person or entity engaged in food business operations - including manufacturers, processors, traders, restaurants, hotels, cloud kitchens, caterers, food storage, transporters, importers, and exporters - must obtain an FSSAI license or registration. Even temporary food stalls and small hawkers need a Basic Registration.
FSSAI license validity ranges from 1 to 5 years from the date of issue. You can choose the validity period at the time of application. The license must be renewed before expiry to avoid penalties. Renewal applications should be submitted at least 30 days before expiry.
Basic Registration is for small businesses with annual turnover up to ₹12 lakh. State License is for medium businesses with turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore. Central License is for large businesses with turnover above ₹20 crore, importers, exporters, and businesses operating across multiple states.
